This is a gentle martial art that involves a
combination of meditation and flowing exercises.
With regular practice it can relieve stress and improve metabolism and
the immune system. Tai Chi is considered a soft martial art; this is
done to distinguish it from other martial arts that are hard and use
tense muscles. Tai Chi is also considered the "art of finding
stillness in motion". In Tai Chi, one meditates while on the move
compared to other arts where meditation is a very still activity. It
harnesses the strong energy generated by the mind and body-without the
need for any tension generated in the muscles-and helps moderate
extremes of behavior. Tai Chi helps curb high stress levels and is
useful for treating arthritis, insomnia, hypertension, asthma and
cardiac problems.
